Have you tried every diet known to man and still can’t lose weight?
Do you hit the gym, have a trainer, and exercise as much as you can?
Do you eat healthy food, consume fewer calories, and the scale just…doesn’t…budge?
If you can relate, this post is for you! These are four of my favorite tips that make a BIG difference.
1. Eat Organic – Pesticides and chemicals work against our hormonal systems. When our bodies are weighed down by toxic burden and our systems aren’t working effectively, insulin increases (fat producer) and leptin (fat burner) decreases. Download a copy of the clean 15 and dirty dozen here and keep them on hand when shopping. Start there. You will taste the difference, probably feel better, and you can expand from there.
2. Make Half Your Plate Fruits & Veggies – At each meal, half of your plate should be filled with a colorful variety of fruits and veggies. The fiber will keep you regular and flush out any extra water weight. You will prevent cancer and other degenerative diseases, while naturally consuming fewer calories. Commit to this practice for just one week and see how you look and feel! Your skin will glow and your clothes will have a bit more room in them.
3. Slow Down – This is a good idea for all of us, particularly at mealtime. The British Medical Journal reports that there is a correlation between speed of eating and weight gain. That said, the old wives tale that we should chew our food 20 times may actually be true. I like to set my fork down between each bite. Pick one or both of these suggestions and commit to the practice for a week and notice the difference. Your digestion will be on point, you will eat less, and you will enjoy your meals more too!
4. Check Your Thyroid – One in two women will experience thyroid dysfunction (that number is actually closer to 80% of the entire population!). Our thyroid hormone is responsible for energy production and metabolism. Often in my practice, I find thyroid dysfunction and once we balance this key hormone (while simultaneously healing digestion), the weight falls off and energy picks right up! You do not need to run out and spend money on expensive tests or wait a month for an appointment with your MD. Start with my simple home thyroid test here. If your thyroid is fine, continue to nourish it with healthy foods, while avoiding gluten, soy and peanuts, which all downregulate the thyroid. Seaweed is one of the most excellent ways to nourish your thyroid. Try sprinkling some kelp and dulse on savory dishes or try this 10-minute dinner recipe!
