In this post, I will share my favorite non-toxic summer essentials to keep your family healthy and feeling great all summer long! Beach to dinner beauty tips, clean wine for mom and dad, and healthy sunscreen for the kids, this post has you covered.
Summer Essentials No. 1: Tinted SPF (Sunscreen) for the Face
I love the lightweight, non-greasy feel of the tinted moisturizer with spf 20 from Beautycounter. I use this everyday tot keep the summer sunspots away! If you prefer a face sunscreen with no tint, I recommend this one. I actually use it after my skincare routine, before makeup.
When I want/need more coverage, I use this lightweight, buildable foundation in shade medium 340.
Summer Essential No. 2: Sunscreen for the Whole Family
Sunscreen can be quite toxic. A 2019 study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that a staggering 83 percent of tested sunscreens pose a risk to your health and the environment. And an estimated 90% of the signs of aging are caused by the sun.
The safest sunscreen you can buy is a PHYSICAL non-nano zinc-based sunscreen. Check this post for my sunscreen guide that includes safe sunscreen for kids, pregnant and nursing mama’s- the whole family!
Summer Essential No. 3: Hydro Flask Water Bottle
Hydro Flask is my go-to water bottle brand. I use the 32-ounce bottle and my kids use the 12-ounce bottle. This bottle keeps a liquid perfectly cold (or hot) for hours. The kids also use this water bottle during the school year and for camp.
Summer Essential No. 4: Deodorant
A deodorant that works is a must in summer heat. A good deodorant should allow the body to sweat without an accompanying odor. A good deodorant should also absorb wetness, but shouldn’t prevent you from sweating. My favorite is hands down Beautycounter’s refillable Clean Deo in Rose or Coconut. I also love Primally Pure’s Blue Tansy and Nic loves the Charcoal.
Summer Essential No. 5: Dry Shampoo
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I only wash my hair once a week. In between washes, dry shampoo is my best friend. My favorite options: Primally Pure or Acure (an affordable line that makes great body lotion and dry shampoos!)
Summer Essential No. 6: Homemade Ice Cream
Ice cream is an essential summer treat. When you make your own ice cream (or any summer treat), you know exactly what ingredients are going into that treat. That’s the beauty of making your own food.
Summer Essential No. 7: Clean Wine
While we all know too much alcohol isn’t good for our liver, there are health benefits to moderate wine consumption. Alcohol, like skincare, is highly unregulated when it comes to ingredient safety and transparency. That’s the reason I drink and promote Scout & Cellar. They 3rd party test for over 300 contaminants, including Glyphosate.
It’s also rare I need an entire bottle of wine. Enter cans…. I love these because they’re perfect for the pool, camping, lake, etc….no bottle opener necessary!
Summer Essential No. 8: Bug Spray
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tick- and insect-transmitted diseases, which can have serious health impacts and may even lead to death, are on the rise. This is my family’s favorite non-toxic bug spray. It smells great, works and lasts for what feels like much longer than the old aerosol bottles I remember using as a kid.
Summer Essential No. 9: Clean Meat
Clean meat is necessary for grilling season. And when you can have it delivered to your door, even better! And right now, my favorite clean meat has a super fun offer: New members receive 2 New York strip steaks, 6 burgers, and 5 lbs of drumsticks for free in their first ButcherBox.
Butcher Box promises:
Summer Essential No. 10: Greens Powder (aka reset button)
Greens are our supplement for cellular cleansing and clean up in the body. They also contain a high dose of food-based antioxidants to clean up environmental damage, free radicals, and toxins. Greens will help pick up your energy or kick a hangover. A scoop mixed in coconut or lemon water do the trick every time.
My favorite: Healthforce Vitamineral Greens
If you prefer a capsule to powder form: Healthforce Caps
Have you tried these summer essentials? If so, which is your favorite or are you most excited to try?
