This Hormone Fixer Recipe- Elixir to Balance Hormones with Diet is amazing for boosting thyroid function, postpartum recovery, enhancing fertility, slashing inflammation and healing digestion.
This Hormone Fixer Recipe- Elixir to Balance Hormones with Diet is a drink I initially created to help boost my thyroid and digestion (the two go hand in hand) about seven years ago. When I found out I was having a baby, I knew I was going to need to boost my system postpartum. As a chronic fatigue and Epstein Barr thriver, I was a bit worried about recovering and having a new baby to take care of.
This recipe has some special food as medicine ingredients I want to highlight, including bone broth.
Is bone broth really good for you?
I am a big fan of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture and have learned so much from studying under some amazing mentors in the field. In Chinese Medicine bone broth is considered to strengthen and nourish our essence, qi, and wei qi, as well as warm the yang and build blood. Broth is said to enter and nourish our Kidneys, Liver, Lungs and Spleen. The kidneys are linked to infertility in Chinese medicine.
Bone broth is also rich in trace minerals and iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and sulfur.

Which bone broth in the healthiest?
I think homemade broth made with kombu is likely the most nourishing and cost effective. As a busy mama, I completely understand we don’t always have time (or the desire) to make our own. That said, I think the broth you will actually drink is the healthiest. I found a shelf stable, reasonably priced brand called Kettle & Fire.
- The bones come from all organic chicken and 100% grass fed cattle
- Has extremely high amounts of collagen, glycine and amino acids which improve digestion
- Uses a slow-simmer time to extract insane amount of protein (10g for chicken)
- Saves me time and cleanup in the kitchen

How bone broth heals?
Our gut and gut flora play a major role in metabolizing toxins and estrogen. Bone broth seals the gut creating an optimal environment for gut bacteria to best do their job.
Turmeric: This spice helps slow the development of estrogen-dependent cancer cells. It’s also great for the liver, so along with the broth and desiccated liver, this combo is going to help flush toxins, namely excess estrogen, whether you’re postpartum, dealing with PMS, or other hormonal issues.
Ginger: The use of warming spices like ginger help to warm the digestive system and make the breakdown of food easier. Working to strengthen the digestive function will help balance hormones and the reproductive system.

Coconut oil: Healthy fats are the building blocks of our hormones and help us stay energetic and slim. Learn more about coconut oil benefits here.
Desiccated Liver: Contains a high content of A and B vitamins, both which strengthen the liver so they can process toxins and estrogen which can cause imbalances to thyroid and hormones.
Sea Vegetables (like Kelp and Kombu): are loaded with trace minerals, which have vital functions at the cellular level in our body and are important for healthy metabolism and hormone function.
The Hormone Fixer Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup organic bone broth
1 tsp organic coconut oil
1 Tbl collagen powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp ginger or 2 drops ginger EO
1-2 capsules desiccated liver
Dash each of black pepper and kelp
Celtic sea salt to taste
Instructions:
- Add broth, turmeric, ginger, black pepper and dulse to a small saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Enjoy!
Notes:
If you like spicy, add more ginger. I use about 1 tsp because I like the spice and flavor that it gives!
You can always take liver capsules versus adding powder to broth, if preferred.
Great idea! I wish I had this after my babies! I had an EBV flare after my 3rd born and it was so tough to recover from!
Awe, me too Renee! They’re the worst!
Wow! This is an amazingly nourishing elixir! How neat to use the YL ginger essential oil in there to, what a great idea.

Thank you for reading Darryl!
I feel like I need this right now. Weird question (sorry!) but as I don’t eat meat could I sub for fish bone broth and maybe fermented cod liver oil instead of the desiccated liver?
Absolutely perfect substitutions Georgie! And you could just omit the liver!
