Summer calls for fun, sun, and snacks. One of my family’s favorites has always been chips and salsa, but as the healthy guy or gal I know you are, the chips are kinda shady, right? It seems there’s always at least one ingredient I know is not healthy. That said, this week #RNL is bringing you healthy homemade tortilla chips. Yum!

Why take the time to make homemade?

As you probably well know, most corn in the U.S. is genetically modified.

Most chips are fried in omega-6 oils, which produce inflammation in the body and once heated, create free radicals that damage cell DNA when consumed.

Even those upgraded brands from the health food store using non-GMO corn are typically heated in an oil (safflower, sunflower, canola), which are heat sensitive and become unstable (and unhealthy).

That said it’s worth 10 minutes to whip up your own healthy chips!!

Healthy Homemade Tortilla Chips

Ingredients

  • 4-6 sprouted corn tortillas
  • 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 1-2 limes, juiced
  • Sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Cut 4-6 sprouted corn tortillas into 6 triangles each.
  3. In a bowl combine 1 T coconut oil, juice of 1-2 limes juice and sea salt.
  4. Brush the chips with the above mixture and lay flat on baking sheet (I like to cover mine with unbleached parchment paper).
  5. Bake about 5 minutes on each side, allow to cool slightly and serve chips warm.

May I suggest serving with #RNL salsa?
