Did you know that most personal care products for men are just as harmful as women’s? The conversation about phthalates and other contaminants typically revolves around women’s hormones, but unfortunately these harmful ingredients have a similar effect on men.
Phthalates are commonly found hidden under the term ‘fragrance’ on any ingredient list. Increased levels of phthalates in a man’s system causes lower testosterone levels and decreased sperm count. This is detrimental to this reproduction capabilities as well as their overall health. Even a recent article from the popular mens magazine, GQ (see here) recently reported such findings.
Ingredients to watch out for:
- Fragrance
- Parabens (look for paraben in the word: methylparaben, propylparaben, isoparaben or butylparaben)
- Triclosan
- Sulfates (look for: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Myreth Sulfate)

I didn’t want to end this Counterman Review without giving you some practical steps to clean up the rest of your man’s routine….
5 simple swaps to help your guy clean his routine:
1. Deodorant: swap from old spice to Primally Pure Charcoal (my husband says it works better than any deodorant he’s ever used)
2. Shaving Cream: swap from that generic brand which contains fragrance, sulfates and BHT to Beautycounters new concentrated formula (a little goes a long long way!) Grab the cream here
