This is a follow up to Monday’s healthy liver post. This is one of my absolute favorite liver supporting breakfasts.

Have you tried Acai(ahh-sigh-eee)? It’s a Brazilian Amazon native, but I first fell in love with Acai in San Diego several years ago.

Why do we love Acai?? It’s full of antioxidants which support the liver and gallbladder. It eliminates toxins from the body, which is obviously quite important.  Acai also revitalizes and gives energy, as well as mental clarity, so it really is a much better option than an energy drink or coffee. It’s also said to support weight loss. One of my favorite benefits of acai is the skin beautifying properties, because it helps promote circulation and bring vital nutrients to the skin. Another fantastic property this time of the year is that it will help with dry, dull skin. Add a teaspoon of cacao powder to this recipe to really boost the skin beautifying properties!

Acai Bowl:

Prep time:  5 minutes       Serves 1

1   packet frozen açai (unsweetened)

1   banana

1   cup almond milk (unsweetened)

1  cup frozen berries

1 tsp raw cacao powder

1 tsp goji berries

Blend above ingredients. Place in a bowl.  Add favorite toppings.

Suggested Toppings:

raw cacao nibs

raw almonds

hemp seeds

raw organic local honey

I like to make mine portable, as shown by making it the night before and grabbing it before I leave in the morning.

Have you tried acai?? What’s your favorite way to eat it??
